Dubai, UAE – Dar Al Ber Society, in collaboration with Axios, has managed to secure medicine, worth Dh1,750,000, for 40 expatriate patients with chronic hepatitis and cancer across the country.

The contributions, part of the ‘Thank you Zayed Giving’ campaign, were collected on the last days of the holy month of Ramadan in collaboration with the Axios company.

Khalfan Khalifa Al Mazrouie, Chairman of the Dar Al Ber Society, said a patient with hepatitis has to shell out Dh90,000 every month to get the necessary life-saving medicine.

“To secure these critical medicines help reduce financial burdens on those vulnerable patients with such chronic diseases because of the high costs of treatment.”

The ‘Thank you Zayed Giving’ campaign is aimed to collect Dh10 million to secure medicine for four chronic diseases, spanning cancer, hepatitis, kidney failure and diabetes, he explained.

“The pioneering scheme is targeting low-income expatiates who cannot afford the costly medicines, while the Emirati patients receive treatment at the public hospitals concerned.”

Abdullah Ali bin Zayed Al Falasi, Executive Director of Dar Al Ber, said the 40 eligible patients included four women and 36 men who all suffer cancer and hepatitis. “These two diseases are more common among patients and their medicines are overpriced.”

The Axios has secured the due medicine for those 40 patients, he added. “These medicines, worth Dh90,000 per month, cover the need of each patient for only three months which cost Dh270,000 in total.”

The medicine costs for each cancer patient stands at Dh50,000 per year, he stated. “The total costs of each patients suffering chronic cancer stand at over Dh200,000.”
