The Committee for Needy Families in Umm Al Quwain, affiliated with the Dar Al Ber Society, completed a package of charitable projects, seasonal aid, humanitarian and development initiatives, which was distributed among 16 different avenues for goodness, charity and community development, over the past year 2020, with total costs amounting to 18 million dirhams, of which 10,163 thousand benefited.

Ali Al-Assi, Head of the Committee for Needy Families in Umm Al Quwain, said that since the beginning of last year, the committee launched a package of community and development initiatives for the benefit of the needy, adding that the charitable projects launched by the committee during the year 2020 included educational aid, which benefited 628 students, paying the tuition fees they owe to the value of 5,709,402,000 million dirhams, medical treatment assistance for 55 patients at a cost of 894,810,000 thousand. Also maintenance of old or dilapidated housing for needy families, 63 houses, at a cost of 1,412,268.20 million, and material aid for the benefit of 723 needy people, at costs amounting to 3,650,633.47 million .

In the same context, Ali Al-Assi added: The charity projects in 2020 also included paying the value of electricity bills for 67 low-income families, amounting to 402,585 thousand, and furnishing 52 homes for needy families, with a value of 564,254 thousand dirhams, in addition to the ‘Al-Mir’ Ramadan project, which provided basic foodstuff for 1,400 families with limited income, worth one million dirhams.

As well as providing aid and assistance to people of determination, at a value of 79,000 thousand, in addition to 8 other items of goodness, charity and development, with varying costs, namely projects providing electronics to the needy, food projects and providing food coupons. Also providing clothing for Eid and computers for needy students, assisting those in debt and the project of providing water coolers.

The Chairman of the Committee affirmed its keenness to extend the hand of aid and charity to needy and poor families and to provide relief to vulnerable segments of society, to provide for their needs and to ease the burden. All in order to establish social security in the UAE society, including citizens and residents, and to promote the values of community cohesion He pointed out that the committee has made special and tireless efforts to confront the repercussions of the Coronavirus pandemic, by helping those affected by the epidemic.

Al-Assi added that the Committee for Needy Families continues its intensive preparations for the blessed month of Ramadan, and for the season of goodness and charity in general, which includes the holy month and Eid al-Fitr.
